Annually, the Department evaluates and prioritizes beach and inlet projects for legislative funding. Criteria for ranking projects include: severity of erosion, expected benefits, project performance, federal funding, utilization of innovative technologies, mitigation of inlet effects, and local and state commitment.

The Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection develops and maintains a comprehensive long-term management plan for the restoration of the state's critically eroding beaches. The beach management plan is used by the Legislature to establish those projects to be funded.
Department initiatives consistent with chapter 161.161, F.S. are eligible for funds pursuant to consistency with Chapter 161.101, F.S. and Program Rule 62B-36, F.A.C.
